Actually, when you consume one carbohydrate gram, you take in four calories. Some good carbohydrate options are fruits, vegetables, wheat breads, whole grain cereals, potatoes, yams and rice. Basically, these foods are good for your body because they help you maintain heart health and a good diet if you eat them properly. In general, plan on eating fruits and vegetables that are different from each other–ones that are varying in color and texture for example. If you eat leafy greens like spinach then also try to eat orange carrots, red tomatoes, and yellow squash. This will ensure that you get a variety of vitamins and minerals. Although it is good to eat an apple a day, do not limit yourself to that. Eat fruits that are dried, like apricots or raisins; frozen, like blueberries or strawberries, or canned, like peaches. It is also best to eat them raw, while drinking them in your fruit juice could give you too many calories and grams of sugar without the same amount of vitamins as the real deal. You should try to eat about nine servings of fruits and vegetables a day and you can include these calories as part of your carbohydrate intake.
